ABOUT US
employU is a Nonprofit Employment Service contracted with The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation assisting people with disabilities prepare for, become and retain employment. We are seeking a Discovery Specialist to work with our clients .
Summary
The Discovery Specialist is responsible for gathering information from the job seeker and the support team to determine the job seeker's interests, skills, and preferences related to potential employment that guide the development of a customized job. 

Essential Functions.
1. In the Discovery program, trained employment specialists spend extra time with VR customers, working with them to determine their interests and observing them to see how they handle situations in their daily lives. 
2. Individualized attention must be given to the clients to assure their success in the program.

A qualified Employment Specialist provides Discovery. Discovery is grounded in community-based experiences that are tailored to the person’s skills, interests and talents. Such experiences help the person and the people who support them to understand the elements that are crucial to the person’s employment success. While conversations with people who are close to the person are important, community-based experiences are the core of Discovery. The discovery process can involve a number of activities, but generally includes: • Interviewing the individual and people who know that person well (family, friends, support staff, personal advocates, etc.). • Observing the individual in various settings, including their own home and their surrounding community. This might include observing the individual in typical life routines and activities.

• Accompanying the individual on planned community-based activities that are tailored to the person, including activities that might be new or unique to the person. In general, the results of the Discovery process should yield and document: • The conditions or characteristics necessary for the person to succeed in any job developed for them. • The person’s interests that gives direction toward general areas of work likely to be intrinsically motivating. • The contributions the person will offer the employer and business

Supervisory Responsibility
The Discovery Specialist may have multiple Job Coaches (JC) assisting them with the activities of their
position.  The DS is also to guide the JC in
deciding which activities to perform, when to perform them and what is the most efficient method to
carry each of them out. DS is to monitor the number of hours the JC works and ensure they are
documenting their time and activity appropriately.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and in the field at various business locations. The
role routinely uses office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, email and a variety of
computer programs.

Physical Demands
The employee frequently is required to drive for long periods of time, stand, walk, reach with hands and
arms, lift up to 40 lbs., participate in job coaching as needed and travel.
Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30
p.m. This position may require some evening and weekend hours depending on demand.



Requirements
· Current Florida driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and proof of vehicle insurance with
$50,000/$100,000 minimum coverage for all employees transporting VR clients.
OPTION A: EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
· Master’s Degree or Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university and written
documentation (resume) of one year of successful experience and employment in counseling,
job placement, job coaching or public vocational rehabilitation program; OR,
· A copy of an Associates in Arts Degree from an accredited college or university and written
documentation (resume) of two years of successful experience and employment in counseling,
job placement, job coaching or public vocational rehabilitation program; OR,
· Written documentation (resume) of four years of successful experience and employment in
counseling, job placement, job coaching or public vocational rehabilitation program.
· In addition, for Supported Employment, a copy of a training certificate from a state or
nationally recognized supported employment program.
OR OPTION B: ACCREDITATIONS
· Proof of current accreditation from The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities
(CARF) in the area of employment services or supported employment services; OR,
· Proof of current accreditation from The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care
Organizations (JCAHO) in the area of Behavioral Health;
· For Supported Employment only, a copy of the Florida Department of Children and Families or
Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Home and Community-Based Waiver Services Provider
Certificate with an approved designation of Supported Employment.
Work Authorization/ Security Clearance
This position requires a level 2 background check at the applicant’s expense
